40ft West Country cutter “Unity” will be joining the Working Sail fleet in summer 2020.
Unity was built in Gweek, Cornwall by Jon Bray, our foreman on the build of Pellew.
She was launched in 2016 and has already cruised extensively. In summer 2020 she will be joining our fleet of wooden sailing boats. She will be dedicated to delivering a selection of Duke of Edinburgh expedition voyages and RYA training course from our home in Falmouth. Along with a couple of our favourite festivals.
She is 40ft on length on deck and is a comfortable and easy boat to sail. Well set out with central cockpit and lots of deck space it lends her to being a great training boat.
Below decks, there is 5 trainee berths and 2 permanent crew berths. She has one heads (marine loo) and a small compact galley. She is comfortable to spend time in but is not complicated with foot pumps to get water into the sinks and no onboard shower.
In the centre of the boat with a log burner allows all the crew to sit around to share meals and discuss their day of sailing and all that they have learnt.
Set at the bottom of the deck companion way steps it is well appointed and uncomplicated.
With lots of clear deck area and central cockpit, Unity lends herself to being a great training boat. Being 40ft on deck and with an inline prop she is easy to manouvre under engine and sail. Learn how to sail a tradtional gaff rigged boat under the watchful eye of our instructor/skipper.
It is a fully involved experience.
Get involved in every aspect of life onboard; sailing and manouvering the boat, planning where you sail and the domestics of the boat.
Unity offer’s a great platform for beginners and more experienced sailors alike to sail on a traditionally rigged sailing boat and formalize their knowledge through the RYA syllabus.
In a relaxed environment, under the watchful eye of the skipper/instructor be encouraged to get involved and learn how to sailing this beautiful west country cutter, with her distinctive gaff rig sails. We will be offering competent crew and day skipper courses through out the summer and will plan to run a yacht-master prep week towards the end of the summer for those who are interested.
