It’s always a slightly bemusing place to be when you want to dabble your toes into the world of sailing. If you want to start from the grass roots up we would recommend small dinghies and learning the basics of sailing and all that is involved. However if you are looking for a way to escape the office for a long weekend and breathe in some fresh sea air this is can sometimes be a cold and exhausting way to get into sailing.
A long weekend sailing break in Cornwall, onboard a wooden, traditional sailing boat is a perfect way for those looking for a more gentle introduction to the water. You do not have to have any previous sailing experience to make the most of a couple of day’s at sea blowing away the cobwebs.
Our friendly, experienced and enthusiastic crew will offer you all the instruction that you require to pull up sails, steer the boat and get fully involved in every aspect of sailing Pellew, Agnes or Unity.
Get involved as much as you want to and enjoy a different anchorage or riverside village every night. All the Skippers and mates have many sea miles under the belts and experience of sailing traditional gaff rigged sailing boats, they have alot of stories to share. They love the water around Cornwall and Brittany and are eager to share it with you this summer.
Our guest crew’s range from between 5 to 8 like minded individuals, depending on the boat (Pellew-8, Agnes – 6. Unity – 5). Whether you are choosing to travel solo or with a friend it’s hard not bond with the rest of your crew mates and all be brought together as friends by the end of your time onboard.
They say a ship run’s on its stomach! During your time onboard you will enjoy good, hearty home cooking with lots of delicious meals and freshly baked cakes. While onboard Agnes and Unity the mate plays a dual role as cook as well on Pellew there will be a dedicated member of crew.
We alway’s strive for a good balance between sailing and some time ashore to stretch your legs during the day. Explore the quiet and secluded spots of Cornwall and avoid the crowds. The best way to see many of the Cornish villages is arriving by the water.
From our home in Falmouth, deep in the west country, set in the lee of the Lizard peninsular we are well situated to sail whatever the weather. From the beautiful Helford River in the West to Fowey in the East there is plenty of place to explore from the decks of Agnes, Pellew or Unity.
If a couple of days on the water proves to much of a time commitment why not try a day sail on Pellew? In her maiden season, 68ft Pellew will be doing 6 one days through out the summer. 3 in St Mawes, Cornwall and 3 in Darmouth, Devon. Enjoy a day afloat onboard this beautiful new gaff cutter and gets hands on and involved in sailing her alongside the crew. Build you confidence and enthusiasm to come back and embark on a longer voyage.
On the other hand, if you have more time on your hands and want to be intrepid we would also thoroughly recoomend our longer trips to Brittany and the Isles of Scilly. There is much to see but you need to be happy for the expereince of being at sea for an extended period of time to get there and back. There is no need to have any previous experience of sailing to be part of these voyages.
We sail from early April through to the beginning of October and have plenty of voyages on offer.
Whatever voyage you choose to embark on we are on hand to answer any question that you might have. Where to join the boat? What to pack? Which voyage or boat is best for you? We realise that there is a lot of questions that you might want to ask.
Please note that we will require a completed booking application form from each member of the guest crew to ensure that we have all the relevant information that we need to keep the crew safe.
