Pellew

pilot cutter pellew being built.

Pellew is the ninth and largest Pilot Cutter to have been built by Luke and the team at our yard in Truro.  She was launched on the 29th February 2020 and started her maiden season sailing with guest crew in 2021 exploring her home waters of the West Country, Isles of Scilly, and the West Coast of Scotland. 68ft on deck, she is the largest pilot cutter built since the 1870’s.

Pellew is the realisation of one of Luke’s dreams, to recreate a modern version of the Falmouth pilot cutter No.8 Vincent, built in 1852 for the Vincent family of St Mawes The Vincent was one of the longest-serving and best-documented of the Falmouth cutters. Built for speed, she worked successfully for 70 years sailing out into the English Channel to land pilots on incoming ships and guide them safely back to Falmouth to revictual and get their ongoing orders. She was retired in 1922, ending her days as a houseboat at Freshwater on the Percuil River.

Pellew has been built to the highest sea going standards with watertight bulkheads and all the equipment necessary to sail the oceans of the world. Pellew is built for speed and offers exciting adventure sailing around Cornwall, to the Isles of Scilly, Scotland, and France. From day sails to 14-night trips there are plenty of voyages to choose from. Explore available trips here.
